Who
The United States Tennis Association (USTA), the national governing body for tennis in the US, which runs USTA League across 17 sections. Its investment arm, USTA Ventures, has invested in Fastbreak AI, a sports operations software company founded in 2022 whose scheduling engine is used by more than 60 pro leagues, including the NBA, NHL and MLS (per Sports Business Journal).
Problem
Every season, section staff build league schedules by hand: about 350,000 team-vs-team matches a year, 2 million court hours, thousands of facilities. The USTA says this manual process takes hundreds of staff and thousands of hours, and its digital strategy lead calls it a source of tremendous operational overhead. That is time not spent on players, clubs and new programmes.
Agent
Fastbreak AI's machine-learning scheduling engine builds match schedules against teams, venues, court availability and league rules. Fastbreak's product team is building a bespoke wrapper for the USTA and its sections around that core engine, aiming for something effective, easy to use and easy to manage (per Sports Business Journal). Section staff stay in charge of the leagues; the engine takes on the optimisation work.

Try it yourself with Fastbreak AI

You coordinate leagues or interclub competitions for a tennis, padel or pickleball federation, league or club. Goal: draft a season schedule with AI, with my team checking and approving every fixture before it goes out. My input: [teams and divisions], [each venue's courts and available slots], [blackout dates and holidays], [rules: home and away balance, max matches per week, travel limits], [last season's schedule and the complaints it got]. Give me: 1) a draft fixture list as a table; 2) every conflict or rule you could not satisfy, flagged; 3) the dates and venues where courts are tight; 4) a short message my team can send captains to confirm dates. Use only my data, never invent courts or dates, and say clearly what needs a human decision.
What we can do for your club or brand

Federations, leagues and clubs lose weeks every season building interclub and league fixtures by hand, then fixing clashes. The Court can set up an AI scheduling assistant that drafts fixtures from your teams, courts and rules, flags every conflict, and leaves each decision and the final sign-off to a named person on your team, so your staff spend their time on players and clubs instead of spreadsheets.

What they did

USTA Ventures, the USTA's strategic investment arm, made an undisclosed investment in Fastbreak AI after a request-for-proposals process to address league scheduling across the 17 sections. The USTA committed to use Fastbreak's scheduling software for USTA League recreational matches. Fastbreak's product team is meeting USTA and section leadership to set requirements for a bespoke tool around its core engine; Fastbreak says it is its largest-scale deployment since 2022.

How it went

The USTA will pilot Fastbreak in a number of USTA League areas by the end of 2026, with wider rollout planned for 2027. Michael Hughes, Sr. Director, Digital Strategy & Business Development: "By freeing the substantial volume of resources currently dedicated to League scheduling, Fastbreak has the potential to have a tremendous impact on helping the USTA reinvest in directly growing the game of tennis." Limits: this is a commitment and a pilot plan, not a measured result; no time-saved, accuracy or player-satisfaction figures are published yet, and pilot sections have not been named.
