Ryder Cup's AI assistant answers staff and volunteers in plain language
250,000+Context, not outcome: the assistant and dashboard served an event of 250,000+ spectators on a 1,500-acre venue, with 67 AI-enabled cameras feeding the dashboard (HPE, Sep 2025). Cole says AI brings 'efficiencies and insights that we were not able to before'. HPE and the Ryder Cup have not published how often staff used the assistant or how much time it saved.
“HPE will debut an Ops AI Assistant, specifically designed for the 2025 Ryder Cup, to help staff operate more efficiently. Powered by generative AI and large language models, this conversational tool enables staff to query manuals, documents, and real-time operational data in natural language. […] The Ryder Cup’s infrastructure must accommodate more than 250,000 spectators over the course of the tournament […] as they move throughout the 1,500 acre venue.”

- Who
- The 2025 Ryder Cup, Europe against the United States at Bethpage Black, New York (26-28 September 2025), with HPE as technology partner. Michael Cole is CTO of Ryder Cup Europe and the DP World Tour.
- Problem
- For a few days a golf course becomes a temporary small city: more than 250,000 spectators over the tournament on a 1,500-acre venue, with crowds piling up around a few holes and then moving on. Cole says the event 'historically has been complicated operationally with lots of manual inputs and processes'. Staff and volunteers need procedures and live figures fast, and people counting in the merchandise tent used to be done by hand.
- Agent
- The Ops AI Assistant is a generative AI conversational tool built by HPE for 2025 Ryder Cup staff. A volunteer confirming a procedure or a manager wanting a live figure asks in natural language, and it retrieves the answer from manuals, documents and real-time operational data. It works alongside the Operational Intelligence Dashboard in HPE's Connected Intelligence Center, on HPE Private Cloud AI, which correlates ticket scans, weather, merchandise and concession sales, golf-cart GPS, queue monitoring and 67 AI-enabled camera streams. Managers decide where extra staff or stock go.

Try it yourself with HPE Ops AI Assistant (generative AI, LLM)
You are the operations assistant for the staff and volunteers of our [club / tournament]. Goal: answer their questions on match day from our own documents. My input: [paste the ops manual, procedures, site map notes, contact list, timetable]. For each question: 1) give the short answer first, in two sentences max; 2) quote the section of the document it comes from; 3) say who to call if the situation is urgent or not covered. If the answer is not in the documents, say so and point to the duty manager. Never invent a procedure. What we can do for your club or brand
Any club or tournament with a match-day manual can give its staff and volunteers the same kind of help: ask a question, get the answer from your own documents, and keep the decisions with the people on site. The Court can turn that into a sourced public case and the content that shows members, partners and volunteers how the event runs, without inventing results that are not published.
What they did
For Bethpage Black, HPE Advisory and Professional Services set up a Connected Intelligence Center as the hub for Ryder Cup operations. Its Operational Intelligence Dashboard, on HPE Private Cloud AI, combined ticket scans, weather, merchandise and concession sales, golf-cart GPS, queue monitoring, network data and 67 AI-enabled cameras. In the merchandise tent, 26 cameras counted people and density, a job previously done by hand. On top, HPE debuted the Ops AI Assistant so staff and volunteers could query manuals, documents and live operational data in natural language.
How it went
Per HPE (Sep 2025), the platform covered an event of more than 250,000 spectators on a 1,500-acre venue. Computer Weekly (Dec 2025) reports that peaks in crowds and sales on the dashboard let organisers line up extra staff, merchandise and food and drink where needed. SiliconANGLE describes the Ops AI Assistant as a tool HPE was testing for staff. Limits: no published count of questions asked, staff using it, time saved or errors avoided. The case is the design, and the scale it was built for.
